FURNITURE RESTORATION CASE STUDY
Rocking Chair
Worn flat out
One key principle of professional furniture restoration is to maintain as much of the original piece as possible.
But these rockers were so worn down by years of use that it made more sense to replace them.
Replacing the rockers
Two new ones were handcrafted from solid beech - good and strong - and stained and French polished to complement the rest of the chair.
The chair blocks underneath the seat were also replaced and the back supports and headrest were reglued.
Ready to rock
To finish, the whole chair was finished with antique mahogany wax.
Here’s to another 100 years of rocking!
